The Little Burrowers Standard: How We Think About Cleanliness
Most parents never see what happens inside a play café between sessions. At Little Burrowers, it is something we think about constantly, because the experience of the next family begins before they even walk through the door.
When we first took over the café, there was a 15-minute gap between sessions. It gave the team enough time for a quick tidy, but not enough time to reset both rooms properly and to the standard we wanted for every family.
For us, a reset should be more than clearing away cups and putting toys back into baskets. It means wiping down surfaces, checking toys and equipment, restoring each of George Town's little role-play areas and ensuring that the Baby Play Room feels just as calm, clean and thoughtfully prepared for the last family of the day as it did for the first.
So, we made a deliberate change: we doubled the time between sessions from 15 minutes to 30.
Why we chose quality over another session
Leaving a longer gap means we might fit fewer play sessions into the day, however, we chose to make that change anyway.
Those additional 15 minutes give our team time to do more than simply clear the room. They create space to notice the details — a toy that needs checking, a corner that needs resetting, or a small detail that a hurried few minutes would otherwise miss.
It means each family arrives to a space that has been properly prepared for them, rather than one that has only just been vacated by the family before.
What this means for your visit
A full 30-minute clean and reset between every play session
Both play rooms carefully maintained throughout the day, not only before opening
Toys and play areas checked, cleaned and returned to their proper places
A small, carefully capped number of children in each session, helping the space remain calm, comfortable and enjoyable
Our 30-minute reset may not be the first thing you notice when you visit Little Burrowers; and that is exactly the point.
You may not see the work happening between sessions, but we hope you feel the difference from the moment you arrive.
Because thoughtful play begins with a thoughtfully prepared space.
